JESUS, First in the Church: Jesus Is In Charge (Pt. 4)
Passage: Colossians 1:18
The message of Colossians can be summarized in two words: JESUS first. Thus far, we have learned that Jesus is first in the Gospel, in thanksgiving, in ministry, in prayer, in redemption, in creation, and now, in the church.
This morning, we will ask two questions which flows out of verse 18: WHO’S IN CHARGE OF THE CHURCH & WHERE DO I BELONG IN THE CHURCH?
1A. WHO’S IN CHARGE OF THE CHURCH?
1B. Jesus is in charge of the church
1C. Jesus grows the body
2C. Jesus guides the body
2B. The church is subordinate to Jesus
2A. WHERE DO I BELONG IN THE CHURCH?
1B. There is connection
1C. With Christ
2C. With Christians
2B. There is dependence
3B. There is supply
1C. Speak the truth
2C. Serve in love
Jesus is to be first, supreme and foremost in all things. This sounds like radical Christianity. It is actually real Christianity.
