JESUS First in Reconcilation: How the Father Reconciled Us to Himself (Pt. 2)

February 9, 2020 Pastor: Verne Nakasone Series: Colossians

Passage: Colossians 1:21–1:22

OVERVIEW:

Reconciliation is a major salvation word as it relates to salvation like redemption, justification, and propitiation. The reconciliation that is addressed here is between God and man.

The word is used to describe the restoration of a right relationship between God and man.

NOTES:

1A. WHY THE FATHER RECONCILED US TO HIMSELF (1:19)
2A. HOW THE FATHER RECONCILED US TO HIMSELF (1:20)
3A. WHAT ARE THE PURPOSES OF GOD RECONCILING US TO HIMSELF (1:21-22)
1B. Our former life, verse 21.
1C. You were once alienated
2C. You were once enemies in your mind
3C. You were once committing wicked works
2B. Your new life, verse 22.
1C. You are now holy
2C. You are now blameless
3C. You are now above reproach

This provides direction on how we ought to live.

  • I must deal swiftly with any sin to restore my nearness and closeness with God
  • I must fill my mind with God’s Word and all that is holy, righteous, and pure
  • I must commit to do the right actions despite what I think or how I feel
