Passage: Isaiah 53:1–53:12
1A. THE REPORT (53:1a)
This is the crux of the matter: Do you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ?
2A. THE REVELATION (53:1b)
God did not leave us alone in our sin. He sent His Only Begotten Son. He sent us a way of salvation.
3A. THE REDEEMER (53:2-12)
1B. His Appearance, verses 2-3.
2B. His Suffering, verses 4-7.
3B. His Death, verses 8-9.
4B. His Success, verses 10-11.
5B. His Triumph, verse 12.
Isaiah 53 was written as if Isaiah was at the foot of the cross. This is the testimony of every Christian. We come beneath the cross of Jesus for forgiveness, salvation, and eternal life.
BENNEATH THE CROSS OF JESUS by Elizabeth Clephane
Beneath the cross of Jesus, I fain would take my stand –
The shadow of a mighty rock within a weary land,
A home within the wilderness,
A rest upon the way, from the burning of the noontide heat
And the burden of the day.
Upon that cross of Jesus mine eye at times can see
The very dying form of one Who suffered there for me;
And from my smitten heart, with tears, two wonders I confess:
The wonder of His glorious love, and my own worthlessness.
I take, O cross, thy shadow for my abiding place;
I ask no other sunshine than the sunshine of His face;
Content to let the world go by, to know no gain nor loss,
My sinful self my only shame, my glory all the cross.
