“The JESUS First Life:
LOOKING UP”
Colossians 3:1-2

The theme of Colossians is JESUS first (1:18). Jesus’ actual position is that He is above all (1:15-17). This chapter describes the JESUS first life.

1A. LOOKING UP (3:1-2a)

1B. Seeking things which are above

1C. What are you to be doing?
2C. What are you to be seeking?
3C. Who is seated at the right hand of God?
4C. What is Jesus doing at the right hand of God?

2B. Setting your mind on things above
Both words emphasize continual activity, obedience to a command, individual          responsibility, and corporate participation.

2A. LOOKING DOWN (3:2b)

      1B. Our focus

      1C. Events

      2C. Enemy

      3C. Eternal God

2B. Our faith
3A. LOOKING WITHIN

The Bible places value on searching and examining our hearts (Psalm 139:23-24).

1B. Are you complaining or praying?

1C. Listening to Philippians 2:14

2C. Life of Praise

3C. Life of Prayer

2B. Are you dividing or drawing near?

      1C. Relationship with others

      2C. Relationship with God

This is what a JESUS first life looks like. When these life-transforming truths are displayed, others will see “Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27).
