What Does God Hate?
Passage: Malachi 2:10–2:16
The theme of Malachi is stated in 3:7. “Return to Me and I will return to you.”
To emphasize the severity of repentance, the LORD used the word hate. The usage of this word displayed God’s reason and intention.
1A. THOUGHT PROVOKING QUESTIONS (2:10)
1B. Have we not all one Father?
2B. Has not one God created us?
3B. Why do we deal treacherously with one another?
2A. HEART PROVOKING EXAMINATION (2:11-16)
Malachi describes three behaviors that were presently taking place among God’s people. God’s Word identifies the three problems hindering, damaging, and altering their relationship with the LORD.
1B. Marrying outside of the LORD, verses 11-12.
2B. Sorrowing without true repentance, verse 13.
3B. Breaking family relationships, verses 14-16.
Three timeless marriage and family truths:
- Be quick to listen (James 1:19)
- Be quick to serve (Galatians 5:13)
- Be quick to forgive (Ephesians 4:32)
God’s hates the tearing apart of marriage and family. God loves unity, harmony, and togetherness in marriage and family. God wants marriages and families to be right with each and at peace with one another.
How do we know this? Because He has modeled this Himself by making a way for you to be right with Him and at peace with Him through His Son Jesus Christ.
