Who Will Survive Jesus’ Coming?
Passage: Malachi 2:17–3:5
The theme of Malachi is stated in 3:7. “Return to Me and I will return to you.” God not only calls us to turn to Him, He has made a way for us as well. This is what makes God unique (Isaiah 55:6-9).
1A. THE PROMISE OF JESUS’ COMING (2:17-3:1)
1B. To redirect our thinking (Psalm 73:2-3; Jeremiah 12:1; 2 Corinthians 5:7-8)
2B. To remind us
1C. HIS FIRST COMING (Isaiah 40:3; Matthew 3:1-3)
2C. HIS SECOND COMING
2A. THE PURPOSE OF JESUS’ COMING (3:2-3)
1B. To refine
2B. To purify
3B. To purge
3A. THE PLAN OF JESUS’ COMING (3:4-5)
In the backdrop of this pronouncement of judgment is an invitation to return. God identifies the reason for judgment. It is “because they do not fear Me” (verse 5b).
There is a remedy; “Return to Me and I will return to you” (3:7).
