Too Busy in the Work of the Lord, Part 2
Passage: Nehemiah 5:14–6:14
Nehemiah reveals God’s way of accomplishing His work is through His people. God’s people participated by working until the wall was finished. It was not easy. There were many challenges.
This morning let’s discover the means that the Lord used, that is, what the people didn’t do and what they did.
1A. WHAT MUST I SAY “NO” TO IN ORDER TO BE FOCUSED ON GOD’S WORK (5:14-6:8)
1B. Saying “NO” to burdening people (5:14-19)
2B. Saying “NO” to the distractions of people (6:1-4)
1C. THE ENEMIES FOLLY (vv.1-2)
2C. NEHEMIAH’S FOCUS (vv.3-4)
3B. Saying “NO” to the accusations of people (6:5-8)
1C. THE DESCRIPTION OF THEIR FALSE ACCUSATIONS (vv.5-7)
2C. THE DEVOTION OF NEHEMIAH’S RESPONSE (v.8)
2A. WHAT MUST I TO SAY “YES” TO IN ORDER TO BE FAITHFUL TO GOD’S WORK (6:9-14)
1B. Why we should say “YES” to God
1C. BECAUSE OF OUR WORRIES (v.9a)
2C. BECAUSE OF OUR WEAKNESSES (v.9b)
2B. How to say “YES” to God
1C. TRUSTING GOD BY PRAYING (v.9c)
2C. TRUSTING GOD’S PROTECTION (vv.10-14)
For 52 days, Nehemiah and God’s people remained focused and faithful to God’s work. They looked to God and worked for God.
What did the enemies and nations see when the wall was complete? They perceived that this work was done by God (6:15b).
