The Light of Our Hope - 1 Thessalonians 5:4-6

The main subject of this section is the Day of the Lord (5:2). We’ve learned that the Day of the Lord is coming (5:1-2) and last Sunday, we learned about the Day of the Lord and the unbeliever (5:3). First Thessalonians 5:4-11 address the Day of the Lord and the believer. Verses 4 and 5 will teach us of our distinguishing identification in Christ. God’s Word identifies the believer as brethren, sons and daughters of God, and in the light. Our identity in Christ then directs our attention to our distinct mission in Christ according to verse 6. God’s Word teaches that we are to be awake, watching, and sober. The reason we are distinguished and distinct is because of Jesus Christ! The Lord Jesus is the One in Whom our salvation is found and the One for Whom we live.
