From Praise to Thanksgiving - Psalm 117

Oct 19, 2025

Psalm 117 is the shortest chapter in the Bible, yet it contains lofty and sizable teaching. Psalm 117 is God calling us to praise the LORD! This praise is not withdrawn and unnoticeable praise but noisy and shouting. The Person we are to be praising is the LORD. The name LORD was the name revealed to Moses in Exodus 3:13-14. LORD means, HE IS and points to the existence and supremacy of God. HE IS present, watching, and hearing. This is God’s promise to His people. We will also learn about the people who are praising the LORD. They are identified as the Gentiles and all people. This means everyone. We are all called to participate in the practice of praising the LORD. And what are the purposes of our praise? We are to praise the LORD for His merciful kindness and enduring truth. God’s merciful kindness is His dependable and covenantal love for us that is great. His enduring truth refers to our faith that God’s Word is trustworthy and reliable. 1 Peter 2:9 teaches that we are to, “proclaim the praises of Him Who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” May we live praising the LORD for the glory of God.
