The Father of Jesus - Matthew 1:18-25

Jun 15, 2025

This Father’s Day we will be considering Matthew 1:18-25 and looking at, “The Father of Jesus.” We’ll learn about the character of Joseph (1:18-19). Joseph is described as a just man, a merciful man, and a godly man. He was right with God and sought to live right before God. His love for God and Mary was seen in the mercy that he showed to her. His godliness was seen in his reflection of righteousness and justice. We’ll also learn about the conformity of Joseph of Christlikeness (1:20-25). The angel of the Lord spoke to Joseph in a dream and Joseph listened (1:20-21). God’s instruction was clear and Joseph’s response was clear. His listening was accompanied with his looking to the Word of God (1:22-23). Isaiah 7:14 prophesied God’s promise to send a Savior Who would be God with us. How amazing is the plan of salvation. Joseph's life was a display of his living for God. He did this as he walked the path of obedience which led to the significance of his influence on Mary and Jesus. May the Lord work in us Christlike character and Christlike conformity for the glory of God.
